얼굴 없는 건물에 대하여 (2018)
인간은 본능적으로 사물에서도 얼굴을 찾는다. 건물의 경우 대개 직육면체 형태를 띠기 때문에 자연스럽게 전면부를 얼굴로 인식하는데, 남산타워의 구조적 특징으로 우리는 남산타워의 얼굴이라고 부를 만한 부분을 찾지 못한다. 따라서 언제 어디서나 같은 얼굴로 마주치는 상대에 대한 불쾌한 감정을 시작으로, 상대의 얼굴이 어디를 향하는지 모른다는 점이 긴장감을 조성했다는 점을 짚어 시선의 불평등함이 초래되었음을 지적한다.
남산타워는 방송 송신탑이라는 본래의 목적을 상실한 지 20년이 지났다. 서울의 랜드마크임에는 누구나 동의하지만, 그 이유를 떠올리는 것은 녹록지 않다. 접근이 수월하지 않다는 사실과 한 번도 본명으로 불린 적이 없다는 사실 자체만으로 타워는 낯설게 느껴진다.
만일 남산타워가 우리를 감시하고 있고 우리는 그 안에 죄수들이라면? 이라는 가정을 바탕으로, 숨어서 남산타워를 관찰하는 방식으로 이 불평등한 권력 관계를 역전하고자 한다.
남산타워 전망대에 올라서서 그 높이를 훔쳐 서울을 한 눈에 내려다본들, 망원경이 배제된 곳을 우리는 눈으로 담을 수 없다. 그렇기에 남산타워는 그 자체로 독보적이다.

Faceless (2018)
Human nature instinctively tries to figure out faces in objects. In case of building, we recognize the side which includes a front door as a face. Nevertheless, in case of Namsan Tower, viewers do not distinguish the front side from other sides because of its unique structure. Emagining coming across someone with same looks in same outfit everyday, anywhere, makes my arm get goose bumps and feels totally creppy. I started this series from those awkward and nervous feelings, and tried to point out it created inequality in view points.
Namsan Tower was originally built as a broadcasting transmitting tower, but its role was deprived since 2000s and left aimless. We cannot but agree that the tower is a landmark of Seoul, but it is not easy to recall the reasons of it. A poor accessibility and bizarre naming process make itself even more unfamiliar.
Regard the tower as a panopticon is an underlying assumption through the series. I tried to turn the table by sneaking around and observing it in reverse.
Even if the observers steal the height of the tower by climbing observatory at the top of the tower, they can’t see every nock and corner of Seoul as the way the tower does. That makes the tower extraordinary.
